The concept of self-esteem has been discussed and misunderstood for an eternity. Both academic and popular culture apply self-esteem in these contrived, safety-oriented places. There is no clear relationship between self-esteem and positive outcomes to include academic, job performance or relationship satisfaction.
The keys to human happiness are found far far away from a classroom or on a couch and rarely in a therapist’s office. The office is just a stable platform to launch into a complicated, complex and many times chaotic world. The adventure of life is how people get things done in association tasks aligned to larger goals and objectives. In spite of the circumstances, humans will exhibit resilience if they are encouraged and supported to do so. Invading, conquering, building, and overcoming obstacles are where self-efficacy is cultivated.
We prefer to focus on self-efficacy at H-hour. A person that is undergoing fundamental life change is not supposed to feel good about making these alterations to their known existence. This kind of drama is reserved for a human that is not desperate but ready to share conviction to self-worth. If things were going well, they would not be seeking therapy or counseling with one of our licensed mental health professionals. This could be seen in various dimensions of a person’s life to include biologically, psychologically, and socially.
According to Albert Bandura, self-efficacy is “the belief in one’s capabilities to organize and execute the courses of action required to manage prospective situations.” Self-efficacy is a person’s belief in their ability to succeed in a particular situation. Such beliefs play a role in determining how people think, behave, and feel.
Where do you express your personal and professional self-efficacy?
If you feel this is absent, what would be a good place to start in your life?
